Library

Frequently Asked Questions about the Library.

Why is my Global Update skipping entries?

By default, a global update skips entries that are unlikely to have anything new: ones with unread chapters, ones you have not started, ones marked Completed, and ones not yet predicted to have a new chapter. Smart updates explains each condition and where to turn them off.

This strategy helps reduce unnecessary requests which may lead to sources implementing measures against Reikai or your extensions.

  • We recommend to prioritize reading your unread chapters, and letting Reikai update the library by itself to better adapt & predict chapter releases over time.

TIP

If an entry has infrequent updates or no updates:

  • Manually update the individual entry if you know there's a new chapter for it.
  • Move the entry into a separate category, and exclude the category from your Global Updates.

To see when each entry is next expected to update, check the Upcoming Calendar.

Why am I being warned about bulk updates and downloads?

Reikai provides a reminder when updating multiple titles or bulk downloading chapters, since excessive requests may trigger a source's anti-bot measures. This can lead to stalled updates and downloads, extending the time needed to complete your requests, which also impacts your device's battery life.

To mitigate these concerns

  • In More→Settings→Downloads, set "Auto download while reading" to how many chapters ahead you want fetched. It starts on Disabled, and the other choices are the next 2, 3, 5 or 10 unread chapters. It is set separately under Auto-download · Manga and Auto-download · Novels. For manga it only starts once the chapter you are reading and the next one are already downloaded.
  • If possible, download in small batches at a time to avoid excessive requests to avoid slow or incomplete downloads.

Splitting up your Library into categories

  1. Go to More→Settings→Library, and create categories to segment your library ("Reading", "Plan to Read", "Completed", etc.).
  2. Under the Global update settings, tap on Categories and select individual categories such as "Reading" to be included. That group is split by content type, so set it under Global update · Manga and Global update · Novels separately.
  3. If the warning persists, create another category for infrequently updated entries (such as monthly series, on hiatus), and only include the more frequently updated reading category.

Why aren't library updates working in the background?

Some Android skins (e.g., MIUI) aggressively save battery & limit performance, potentially shutting down apps in the background.

  • Whitelist Reikai from your battery saver by going to More→Settings→Advanced and tapping Disable battery optimization.
  • If the issue still occurs, refer to Don't Kill My App for steps on disabling specific battery-saving options for your device's brand.

How can I see the number of downloaded chapters?

Navigate to Library, tap Filter in the toolbar and open the Display tab. Then, under Overlay, select Downloaded chapters.

Can I sync between multiple devices?

Reikai can't sync between devices. Use its backup and restore features, including auto backups, for series database and content migration to another device.

How can I ignore duplicate chapters?

Dealing with series translated by multiple groups that result in duplicate chapter releases?

Bookmark or mark as read the undesired chapters, then open the Filter menu, ensure you're on the Filter tab, then double-tap Bookmarked or single-tap Unread.

This hides bookmarked or read chapters, enabling you to skip them as you read. Ensure Skip filtered chapters is enabled at More→Settings→Manga reader under Reading, or for light novels, Skip filtered chapters at More→Settings→Novel reader under Reading.

Alternatively, migrate to a source without duplicates. Refer to the migration guide for detailed instructions.

Why are some cover thumbnails corrupted or blank?

If cover thumbnails appear corrupted, blank, or broken, it's likely due to an incomplete download.

To fix one series, manga or light novel, open it and pull down to refresh. That downloads its cover again even when the source still lists the same image.

Refresh library covers, at More→Settings→Advanced, covers your whole manga library at once, but it only downloads a cover again when the source has moved it to a new address, so it will not repair a broken copy of an unchanged cover. It does not touch light novels.

Why have some chapters been marked as unread?

If certain series chapters are marked as unread without your interaction, it could be due to changed URLs. Reikai detects these changes and interprets the chapters as new.

A chapter has the wrong number. Can I fix it?

Yes, on manga and light novels. A chapter whose number is out of line with the chapters around it gets a red warning mark before its title on the series' page. Tap the mark to correct it: the dialog opens on a suggested number that fits between its neighbours when one does (otherwise on the chapter's current number), and you can type any other.

To correct a chapter that is not marked, select just that chapter and choose Correct chapter number from the selection's overflow. Opening the dialog again on a corrected chapter shows The source says with the original number, and Reset puts that back. Corrections survive refreshes and backups.

Side stories, extras, specials and other bonus chapters are never marked, and hidden chapters are left out of the check. On a merged series, each source's chapters are checked against that source's own list.

How do I pause reading history?

Turn Incognito mode on, through More→Incognito mode. While it is on, nothing you read is recorded; turning it off starts recording again. To keep only one source out of your history, turn on its own incognito mode.

How do I only read downloaded chapters?

Enable Downloaded only via More→Downloaded only.

Why can't I disable the Downloaded filter?

Disable Downloaded only via More→Downloaded only.

What does the Lewd filter count as adult?

The Lewd filter on the Filter tab of Library treats a series as adult when its extension is marked 18+, when one of its tags is plainly adult (such as "Smut" or "Erotica"), or, for manga, when it comes from one of the gallery sources Reikai enhances (a self-hosted LANraragi server included) or from a source whose name marks it as an adult site. An extension that only may contain adult content does not count, and neither does a "Mature" tag, which mainstream series carry too. A merged series counts as adult if any of its sources does. The extension and tag rules work the same for manga and light novels.

I edited an entry's title (or author). Why does sorting ignore the new name?

That is intentional. When you use Edit info to change a title, author, cover, or other details, the change affects how the entry looks (its details page and the library, updates, and history lists) and library search, which finds it by the name you gave it. Sorting, category grouping, and the same-title suggestion for merged series keep using the entry's original source info.

So a renamed entry is findable under your name for it, but stays where its original title sorts and still groups with its other sources. This is deliberate: it keeps a rename from silently reshuffling your library or splitting a merged series. The edit is stored separately and never overwrites the source, so Reset all in Edit info restores the original cleanly (Reset info and Reset tags put back just those fields, applied when you save).
